ATA stands for the Air Transport Association, which developed the ATA Spec 300 – a standardized set of design guidelines for cases used in air cargo transport.

ATA cases are built to:

  • Withstand repeated handling in shipping and freight environments
  • Protect sensitive equipment during air, ground, or sea transport
  • Ensure global compatibility with cargo handling procedures

At Pro Pak, our ATA road cases are engineered to meet or exceed ATA Spec 300 standards – offering dependable protection for touring, trade shows, audiovisual gear, and more.

While Pro Pak ATA road cases are built for long-term durability, damage can occur over time – especially in high-impact environments like freight shipping or warehouse handling.

Typical Causes of Damage:

  • Rough Handling – Forklifts, conveyor belts, and drops during transit can damage wheels or hardware
  • Blunt Force Impact – Direct hits may cause latches to misalign or stop functioning
  • Aging Foam – Over time, foam interiors can lose shape and break down

Built to Withstand Abuse:

  • We use zinc-plated steel hardware including corners, recessed latches, and handles
  • Every case is designed to protect your equipment first, even if the exterior takes a hit

Need Repairs or Replacement Foam?
Pro Pak offers foam replacement and case repairs support to keep your gear protected for years to come.

Our road cases are engineered for maximum protection and durability using high-strength, impact-resistant materials trusted by touring professionals and industrial users alike.

Standard construction includes:

  • 1/2″ Black ABS laminate
  • Hex Riga finish for enhanced surface grip and wear resistance

We also offer a wide range of custom finishes and colors to meet your branding or touring requirements.

All Pro Pak cases are built tough in Las Vegas and shipped nationwide.

Designing for higher durability offers major benefits – but it also comes with a few trade-offs that our Pro Pak team will help you evaluate during your consultation.

Pros of Higher Durability:

  • Superior Protection – Ideal for fragile or high-value equipment
  • Long-Term Investment – Withstands heavy use during transport, loading, and touring

Cons to Consider:

  • Increased Weight – Heavier-duty materials like thicker plywood and large-format hardware add to the total load
  • Design Complexity – Larger or heavier items may require a higher base, which can affect how easily the item is loaded or removed

At Pro Pak, our experienced case designers will work with you to find the right balance between protection, mobility, and cost-efficiency – based on your exact use case.

Lightweight ATA cases are a great solution when ease of transport and solo handling are a priority – but they come with trade-offs in durability.

Pros of Lightweight Cases:

  • Easier to Carry – Ideal for one-person operation
  • Quick Access – Lighter lids open with minimal effort
  • Reduced Shipping Costs – Especially helpful for air freight or bulk orders

Cons to Consider:

  • Lower Impact Resistance – Thinner plywood or materials may offer less protection for heavy or delicate gear

Construction Options:

  • Lightweight cases typically use ¼” (5.2mm) plywood, compared to the more rugged ⅜” (9mm) or ½” (12mm) used in heavy-duty builds
  • We also offer rotomolded and injection molded cases made from lightweight plastics for even greater weight savings
